<scp>M</scp>icro‐<scp>XCT</scp> chondrule classification for subsequent isotope analysis

Chondrules are microscopic, recrystallized melt droplets found in chondritic meteorites. High-resolution isotope analyses of minor elements require large enough element quantities which obtained by dissolving entire chondrules. This work emphasizes the importance X-ray computed tomography (XCT) to detect features that can significantly affect bulk chondrule composition. It thereby expands on other works looking into chondrules from a wide range chondrites including CR, CV, CB, CM, L, and EL samples before turning toward complex time-consuming chemical processing. The considered metal igneous rims, compound chondrules, matrix remnants, contents. In addition identification these features, prevents inclusion non-chondrule (pure or metal) as well where two different fragments with potentially compositions held together matrix. Matrix surrounding is also easily detected affected be omitted reprocessed. results strongly encourage perform XCT dissolution for analysis non-invasive method.
